Speakers and Panellists

Jonathan Ward
Director, Environmental Operations

Jonathan is a qualified lawyer and joined OPRED in 2015 as their Senior Investigations Officer. He was promoted to his current role as Director of Environmental Operations in October of 2016 and has been in the role ever since. Jonathan leads the Offshore Environment Unit within OPRED, which is a 50 strong team of specialist Environmental Mangers and Offshore Environmental Inspectors and generalist business support staff.

Geraldine Boylan
Director – Environment

Geraldine is a Chartered Environmentalist with 22 years consultancy experience working with industrial and commercial companies on sustainability and environmental compliance and improvement projects. As Director of the Environment Group at Mabbett she leads new business development and innovation of services, e.g. circular economy, net zero support, strategy development, carbon baseline, LCA and partnership approaches to delivery. She is a connector of people, and leverages the expertise of the Mabbett team and key collaborators for overall client benefit – and solutions – so that clients ‘See a Difference’. Within her SHEQ management systems delivery expertise, she is experienced in provision of full service implementation projects for ISO 50001 projects – from gap analysis through to implementation, on-site services support and delivery of training.

Andy Lee
Director – Operations

Andy Lee is a Director at Mabbett, and a Chartered Energy Engineer with a mechanical engineering background. He has over 20 years key expertise around low carbon design for industrial processes and the built environment, renewable technology; energy efficient design; efficient operation of building services; low carbon consulting and carbon footprinting. He brings analytical thinking into the real world for application, i.e. the “does it make sense” test, and is the guy you want on your team when making critical decisions which require energy data-analysis and interpretation. Teaming his core technical energy skills with the management systems specialists in Mabbett, he delivers technical (Clause 6) elements of 50001 implementation projects – from energy audit and opportunities assessment through to data analysis and development of EnPI’s (energy performance indicators), and development of real objectives which can be backed up by energy reduction and energy efficiency projects.

Andy Bain
Environment Manager

Andy Bain is a very experienced environmental professional who has worked in a variety of countries with various operator, service and consulting companies. As the Environment Manager for Total E&P in the UK he is responsible for a large portfolio of assets, both on and offshore and leads a strong team who manage the many challenges we are facing as an industry, whilst maintaining the highest regulatory, group and stakeholder standards. He is very active in the energy transition arena and is very passionate about building upon the fantastic results already achieved in reducing the environmental impact of our industry. A very keen sportsman, he is never far from the hills on his time off, be that on foot or on one of his (too) many bikes!

Knut Simon Helland
Energy Manager
Equinor ASA

Knut S.Helland was appointed Energy Manager for Equinor’s off shore activities on the Norwegian Continental Shelf in June 2014. Before that Knut has held a number of different engineering and management positions in Equinor and earlier in Rolls-Royce all linked to Rotating Machinery. Knut holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.

Wendy Brown
Environment Director

Wendy is currently Environment Director for the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), based in London, responsible for directing IOGP work on Environment, Low Carbon and Decommissioning, managing two science Joint Industry Programmes and undertaking regulatory advocacy and engagement on behalf of the upstream industry at the regional and international level. She trained as a biologist and has over 30 years’ experience with the oil and gas industry. Wendy initially worked for 12 years as an environmental consultant, before joining the international energy major TOTAL in 2001 where she has held a variety of positions in environment or sustainable development based in Aberdeen, Calgary and Paris, including leading the global Upstream Environment team at TOTAL’s headquarters until 2017, when she was seconded to IOGP.
